Odin’s Insight

This blog exists to catalogue and preserve the information posted on the facebook group; https://www.facebook.com/groups/odinsinsight/ – I hope that this information finds you and you are able to learn about the Norse “Viking” culture. As time moves along, my efforts will be on this blog more than the group.

My background in Norse studies goes back nearly 40 years. My children’s books were gifted to me from a friend of the family which included John Bauer’s “An Illustrated Treasury of Swedish Folk Tales”, Tons of fairy tales from norse myths and J. R. R. Tolkien’s children’s book, “The Hobbit”, which is where my love and interest in the runes come from. Tolkien and others planted the seed and the tree grew seeking real history and culture.

I’ve been studying runes now for over 30 years. Elder Futhark, Younger Futhark, Long branch, short twig, staveless, Marcomannic, Anglo Saxon Futhorc, Medieval and Dalecarlian Runes, along with other parent writing systems.

I study Old Norse language and transliterate it as I understand it. I use what I can to save time and attempt to pass on all the information I can find in one package. I learn with you.
